Youth Sailing
Sailing, Race training and Social events
Lyme Regis Sailing Club has gained RYA Champion Club status for the
strength of its Youth Section. Youth training takes place on Tuesday
evenings from the end of April until the Summer holidays. Sessions start
at 6 pm. For safety reasons, numbers are limited to 50 and there is
usually a waiting list. (Members must be youth members of LRSC ).
Training follows the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme and members have an RYA logbook which records their progress. First lessons are in Wayfarer dinghies with an instructor, moving on to Toppers, then into Laser Radials and 420s.
Youth members are encouraged to join in the main club sailing programme. Many of the keen youth members have their own boat but the club owns a competitive 420 dinghy for use by youth members. Race training is available on Saturday afternoons and in school holidays for the competent sailors.
There is an adult sub-committee who plan and oversee the organization, (Chairman Pete Morton, Sec. Sally Holman) and a Youth sub Committee elected by youth members.
