The Club

Lyme Regis Sailing Club house is situated next to the harbour at the foot of Cobb Hill. The well equipped clubhouse has a bar, galley, male and female changing facilities with showers, and a sun deck which overlooks the harbour and sea. Marquees are normally provided for larger events.

The small harbour, offering shelter for both yachts and fishing boats. The harbour itself dries out at low water, but it's shallow and shelving, offering hard standing that is ideal for launching and recovering boats. A recent addition is an extensive slipway (see picture) which grants a wide access to the water

Sailing takes place right next to the harbour and in relatively deep water.

Lyme Regis Sailing Club was formed in 1921 by a small group of sailing enthusiasts with the object of encouraging amateur sailing. This aim is written into the constitution of the Club.

The Club is open to all who desire to sail or who have an interest in the sport. Currently it does not have a waiting list, as do some clubs, and presently has over 400 members. There are various categories of membership with price concessions for juniors and family/ group discounts; temporary membership is available for visitors.

There is club sailing on an organized basis between March and October. For dinghy sailors there is a varied programme of racing events and for keelboats a number of club cruises and races throughout the season. Youth instruction takes place during the summer months. The club has a good reputation for its organization and successful running of Open meetings and National Championships.

Car parking and dinghy spaces are available; details on these amenities can be found on the membership page where costs and availability are shown. There are moorings for cruisers in Lyme harbour (the famous Cobb). These are administered by West Dorset District Council and at present there is a waiting list; further information is on the cruiser page.

All operational duties needed to run a successful Club are performed by members. These duties vary from crewing the safety boat, being Officer of the Day (OOD) or their assistant, or running the bar. The knowledge and expertise of members is also welcome on the various Sub-Committees which are formed following the Annual General Meeting in October.
