Lesley will be retiring as Treasurer of the Club at this year’s AGM in October, and we are looking for somebody to replace her.  Although the accounts are generated using Quick Books, a simple to use accounts programme, a basic knowledge of book keeping would be useful although not essential as Lesley will be available to help out if needed.

If you would be interested in knowing more about the position please give Lesley a ring on 01297 445263 or email her at lesley@broom123.myzen.co.uk.

Scorpion open 2010

Scorpion Open at Lyme Regis Sailing Club

Event Date: 12-13 June 2010
Author: Tim & Sarah Parsons

Glorious conditions for the Scorpions at Lyme Regis

22 Scorpions arrived in glorious sunshine at Lyme Regis for the next event in the busy open meeting calendar. Racing got underway in light, shifty north westerly breeze. Local sailors Allan and Chrissie Tyler were first to round the windward mark closely followed by Barry Wolfenden & Melanie Titmuss, the rest of the fleet followed closely behind, the shifting breeze meant that after the gybe mark spinnakers were dropped and there were alot of place changes. Allan & Chrissie Tyler held onto the lead, until, they missed the gate. The place changing pattern was a theme of the race with final winners John Mursell & Nick Keast, followed by Peter and Thomas Rose, with Tim & Sarah Parsons taking third place.

Race two started in similar conditions and saw Chris Turner & Ben Rayner taking an early lead, behind the leading boat the top 5 boats changed continually throughout the race. The final lap saw Chris and Ben sailing into a hole, followed by Tim & Sarah Parsons. The Tylers then sailed in from the opposite side of the course to take the lead and end up with the race win, followed by Chris Turner & Ben Rayner, with John Mursell & Nick Keast taking third place.

After sailing the club put on a BBQ and the big screen meant that everyone was able to cheer on Lewis Hamilton and the England Football Team.

Sunday saw a promising south westerly breeze, racing got away after a short delay while the shifting breeze settled and built. The steady breeze meant that after a clean start the front of the fleet got away after the windward mark, John Mursell & Nick Keast took first place, with Chris Turner & Ben Rayner second, followed by Catherine Putt & Simon Maguire.

Race four saw a general recall, all boats got away the second time with just one boat OCS, John & Nick took an early lead closely followed by Chris & Ben, with Tom Jeffcoate & Mark Hogan in third position. Chris managed to overtake John & Nick just before the finish with Tom & Mark holding onto third position.

The final race of the day saw the black flag being produced with Alan & Janet Ritchie deciding that one OCS was not enough, they decided to get black flagged to get home before the traffic, along with Chris Yates. At the windward mark Tom & Mark took the lead and continued to pull away from the fleet to take the win, Chris & Ben took second place with Dave & Mike Hannan getting their new stiffy going to take third.
