Tuesday evening Youth Training at LRSC

Tuesday evening Youth Section Sailing has been running at Lyme for over 30 years. Experienced sailors and qualified instructors follow a structured RYA course, for a mixture of beginners and improvers. Volunteering and helping each other is encouraged. The 2017 sessions ended on Tuesday with a review by instructor Jim Thomas and organiser Sally Holman, a talk from Harbourmaster Grahame Forshaw who takes overall control on the water, awards to those who have helped out as ‘victims’ for recent RYA Safety Boat courses, and encouragement to progress to the Saturday Race Group for those who now have the skills join that. Youth members also sail at the club Regatta in August and Bart’s Bash in September, and several join club races as helms or crews. Refreshments were provided by the sailors and Katie Cooper and Debra Finn.

Booking for 2018 begins in December, young enthusiasts must be over 10 years old and water confident to apply. Two more youth members completed the Volunteering part of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award at Tuesday Sailing this summer.
