Last Sunday, with strong northerly gusts giving variable boat speeds, the first two races of the Cool Down Series were raced. An entry of 11 dinghies, split between single and double-handers, crossed the start line, with Dominic Bowns and Jake Stowe coming in first, ahead of Solo sailor Andy Robinson with Laser sailor Dan Alsop third. Cameron Moss and Darroll improved their 4th place to gain a second in the next race, after Dan Alsop looked set to overtake the field battered by a very strong gust only to suffer rudder failure and a dramatic capsize. Dominic and Jake scored another win, Cameron making second place and Andy third among only seven finishers.
By contrast, today’s steady light wind and flat seas for race three, saw Jon Turner and Max Helston narrowly beat Jerry Rook and Chet Gillespie by seven seconds, keeping Dominic and Jake in third place. All three young crews are continuing to gain valuable experience with top helms. Two seconds later, Andy Robinson was the leading single-hander in fourth place.
Race four had Cameron and Darrol taking third, narrowly beaten by Jon Turner and Max in second and Jerry and Chet in first.
Dominic discards a fourth place to remain one point behind Jerry Rook overall in another 13 race series.
