18th to 25th August

We are privileged to be hosting this major event in August. Olympic sailors including medal winners and world and national champions from many classes will be competing.

Preparations have been ongoing for months but the major task of preparing the clubhouse and yard will commence after the Wednesday evening racing on August 15th.  Club racing will not resume until Sunday August 26th but the club will remain open to members throughout the event.  The organisers are keen to show what a vibrant club this is so you are all actively encouraged to welcome the visitors by supporting the various social events, or just come along to use the canteen, the bar and enjoy the buzz.

From Thursday August 16th until Saturday 25th the car park will be in huge demand.  If you are a volunteer and do not have a club windscreen pass please plan carefully, and collect a special windscreen sticker from Stuart or Dan prior to the event. It will be first come first served and please try to get to the club in any way other than driving if you can!

Club boats will be moved on Thursday 16th into a concentrated gaggle at the far end of the park. Most boats will then be inaccessible for the duration.  If you are going to need your boat during the event please remove it from the dinghy park beforehand.

Kathy and Trish will be running the “Isosceles Café” every day and they will be happy to provide for members as well as the Competitors and Officials.

The bar will be open daily from lunchtime and we would pleased if you take empty glasses / plates / rubbish etc to the right places. We are all volunteers, so every little helps.

Thursday 16th

The marquee will be erected in the club compound – this will block the club ribs from entering and exiting the compound, so these will be parked on the slipway as directed by the Harbour Master on the Wednesday. There will be deliveries of food and drinks all day.

Friday 17th

Some competitors will be arriving, and the team of club volunteers will be guiding the visitors to the right places – the bar will be open, and we would encourage all members to visit and meet the competitors and help out where they can.

Saturday 18th

Most of the competitors will be arriving.  Scrutineering, measurement and  registration will take place.  Rob Walker’s team will ensure that everyone will finish up in the right place and there may possibly be a bit of sailing going on.

At 20.00 the Commodore’s Official Reception will commence.  There will be complimentary beer, Pimms and some soft drinks and plenty of snacks hot and cold. We would encourage all the volunteers and club members to join our visitors. We need to demonstrate the LRSC is not only the best place in the world to sail, but we are a mega friendly club – make them welcome! But when the free food and drinks run out that’s it –

We hope that the Mayor the Harbour Master and other friends of the club will join us and the Commodore has been advised to restrict himself to his less risque jokes (if he has any?)

There will be music during the evening, probably from Stuart’s old vinyl collection!

Sunday 19th

Racing commences.  Boats should be launching from 11.30.  There will be up to three races every day, first start at 13.00.

13.00 For those not sailing we are planning a family picnic and walking tour of the town. If you would like to join please let Angela Makenzie know in advance (she will be in or around the race office).
