Easter Egg Cup

Easter Egg Series with Hot Cross Bun course starts Sailing Racing Season at Lyme.

In spite of challenging sea conditions, a series of 6 races was held over the Easter weekend. A good turnout of 14 dinghies on Easter Sunday reflected the best of the weather, but only 2 dinghies completed the full series.

Race Officer Pete Thomas got things under way on Easter Saturday, both races being won by Joe Joyner and Will Broom in their RS 800 with 7 dinghies taking part.

On Sunday, Joe was on duty as Race officer, and he posted an inventive ‘Hot Cross Bun’ course for 13 competitors, mixing all points of sailing with wind shifts so that the Safety boat helm Will had to lead the fleet round. All entrants completed both races. New to their RS 100 single handers, Max Smith and Dave Stubbs joined Simon Boyle in a class becoming more popular. The K1s also featured with the leaders, but Jon Turner and Katie Frost, Merlin Rocket, won both, and Albacore Jerry Rook was well in the running.

Monday brought colder weather, with Cameron Moss and Andy Robinson both gaining a first and second place. Incidents included a drifting windward mark, but 5 keen sailors gained a result.

Overall, Jon Turner and Katie Frost took the series, with Andy Robinson coming close second and Dave Stubbs taking third. Congratulations to everyone who took part!
