Cool Down Series at Lyme 27th November 2016

Sailing continued with the keenest racers turning out in the wintry winds over the past two weekends for the Cool Down Series races 5 – 8.

On 20 the November, 5 boats left the start line in sunny but cold conditions, a light, shifty NW wind making course setting difficult. Two youth competitors, Fraser are and Cameron Moss took part, but both races of the day went to Jerry Rook in his Albacore although Fraser made a second place as did Ray Waspe , both in Lasers.
The 27th November saw a bigger turnout of 12 boats in a coldĀ NE force 3, with 10 finishers. Club members were joined by visitor Sam Pascoe with Harvey, who sailed Dom Bowns’ Merlin to first place in both race 7 and 8. Sam is one of the top sailors in the country, current International 14 world champion but also successful in several other classes, he comes from Lyme’s sister club, Castle Cove. Dom, with Jake Stow crewing, sailed his new Jon Turner Merlin, racing for the first time, to a close second in race 7, less than a minute behind the leader, followed after 3 seconds by Jerry Rook and Chet Gillespie. Cameron and Darrol Moss, finding the reaching angles favourable in race 8, chased Sam to finish second on a one minute difference.

Jerry Rook leads the series on 5 points, Cameron and Darrol second with 12.
