Minutes of Committee Meeting September 2007

Congratulations:
Chris Turner & Simon Maguire were 2nd overall at the Albacore Internationals
held in Maryland , USA on 8 – 12 October (Jerry & Pauline Rook were 19th out of 46 despite not sailing the last 3 races – too windy) We had a great time with temperatures in the 90s F inland and wall to wall sunshine, free beer and breakfast & evening meals – however the race committee were not up to the standard we have become used to at Lyme.
Mary Rook was Second overall  in the RYA Womens Matchracing National championships at Weymouth over the weekend of 5 & 6 October (sailed in J 80 yachts), beating plenty of “big names” who all were given write ups before the champs in Yachts & Yachting – Mary did not get a pre-match write-up.
Mary then qualified to sail in the RYA Open Matchracing Champs sailed last weekend against all the top guys ( Nick Cherry, Mark Campbell-James, Olympic sailors etc etc) unfortunately there wasn't much wind and the full programme couldn't be completed – she finished 8th  and Lucy MacGregor who won the women's was 6th.

Congratulations to Jeff Vanderbougt and Dave Guthrie on their 1st and 2nd overall in the Dartmouth Regatta dinghy races, out of 60 entrants. This is the second year running LRSC has brought home the silverware from this event, the other entrants must shudder to see these two names on the list! Well done to the pair of them. Wedding Party Auction

I would like to thank members and visitors who took part in the auction for the Candle on the Cobb charity that took place during Chris and Kathryn Turners wedding party at the Club last Saturday evening.

Thanks to your generosity you raised over £750 for this local and important charity, thus kick-starting its fund raising leading up to the 2008 lighting of the candles.

A special thanks to the Turner family who donated so many of the unique articles offered, and also to Jeremy Wallace who so skillfully acted as the auctioneer, in a manner only he can manage!

Keith Thompson Commodore.
